Egham Town kept the heat on promotion rivals Amersham Town with an emphatic mauling of relegation candidates Risborough Rangers. While the Buckinghamshire side were winning 2-0 at home against Wallingford & Crowmarsh, the Sarnies were at their marauding best once Connor Cullen had hammered home a 21st minute header off Ben Peden’s excellent cross. Cullen was the striker the club brought in after the disappointment of drawing 1-1 at Risborough in a game they dominated but could not finish off. Harlem Hale volleyed just wide, but a minute later took his tally this season to 20 with a penalty after he was grounded in the box. Luke Heneghan also scored from the spot after a handball in the area. Alle Bangura capped off a fine run with a neat cross shot to pull Rangers back to two behind. The margin looked likely to be restored, but a late block denied Heneghan’s shot off Cullen’s pass.
Whatever the Rangers’ manager might have said over the half-time refreshments was decisively binned only ten minutes into the second period. Cullen was fouled, again, this time just outside the “D” and in range for a direct strike at goal. Heneghan had scored some beauties from free kicks earlier in the season, and added another with a blast that was so perfect that the Rangers keeper did not even have time to move. After what looked like a good goal was ruled out (it went in off Rangers’ centre back Curtis Chapple), Hale converted Callum Webb’s short pass by ramming home his second and the Sarnies’ fifth of the night. A remarkable third spot kick award, after Ronan Hutchins was fouled in the box before converting the penalty, made it 6-1. Four minutes of normal time were let when clever play from Peden and Tyrique Tekasala gave Excellence Muhemba an opening, and when his shot was charged down it fell to Jordan Brown to grab number seven.
